Officers mentioned they were alerted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
